REMOVES

Medical Need:

Motion sickness and simulator sickness occur when there is a mismatched between the signals provided by the physiologic inputs of vision and the vestibular system.

REMOVES

Reduction of Vehicle Display Induced Motion Sickness

In the US Military, motion sickness can adversely affect a warfighter’s performance in critical missions. The issue of simulator sickness can be a limiting factor in mission readiness, because the urgency of pre-mission training is completely negated by any need to wait for the sickness to subside.

REMOVES is a small electronic device that can eliminate the symptoms of motion and simulator sickness at the touch of a button. The underlying technology enables vestibular sensations of motions where none exists, or conversely can be used to reduce the aberrant effects of asynchronous vestibular inputs.

This has a direct application to:

  • Motion sickness elimination during transport

  • Simulator sickness reduction, and may facilitate quicker OK-to-fly after a use of a simulator

  • Flight simulators on board ship that will require a “cancellation” of vestibular motion cues

  • Elimination of sickness in operators of remotes drones/UAVs

The features of REMOVES include:

  • Begins to work immediately (within 100ms) as soon as it is worn and turned on.

  • Ceases its effects as soon as it is turned off and the soldier then returns to normal vestibular response

  • Uses very low power, and is energy-efficient

  • Non invasive, painless, and overall a safe device to use
